Welcome to the global drama of IDEA!

IDEA’s proposals today are the fruits of decisions taken by our members and fellow practitioners based on decades of personal and international experimentation. Throughout the many powerful debates since our foundation in 1992, IDEA has been unified by a guiding principle: that all human beings have the capacity and the right to learn the creative languages and skills needed to be human and to create a just and peaceful world.

In collaboration with other international organisations, world networks, ministries of education and culture, NGOs and isolated practitioners in communities, schools and universities across the world, we are developing and advocating tested arts-based educational paradigms based on cooperation, not on competition. How else will we respond to the global ache for a sustainable and democratic future?

To sharpen and implement our vision, IDEA brings together the experiences, skills and ideas of theatre artists, teachers and young performers in all their diversity. We develop workshops and performances; exchange expertise and resources; publish articles, books and CDs; and support the organisation of local, regional and world forums. Please write to me if you have ideas about how we can develop the practice of creative learning and mutual solidarity through the theatre arts.

If you are an IDEA member, you can directly shape the development of IDEA's projects, advocacy and strategy by creating a local or international IDEA project, joining one of our working committees, hosting an IDEA event, or helping to build our next world congress. Simply click on the Consultancy page above to chat with our Directors or to organise or join residencies, find recommended books and techniques, read about the latest work and artistic opportunities in our field.

We invite you to participate in any way that fulfills your needs in the creation of this dynamic, democratic, multicultural and effective world movement. We strive for nothing less than the transformation of every classroom in the world into a theatre of self-confidence, hope and laughter. Welcome to the theatre of this intimate and dialogic drama of transformation!
