WAAE prepares for the 2010 UNESCO world conference on arts education
Newcastle, England, October 31 - November 2 2009
The WAAE held its 2009 World Summit in partnership with Creativity Culture & Education and NewcastleGateshead Initiative in Newcastle, England, between 31 October and 2 November 2009, entitled Towards a Paradigm of Creative Education for the 21st Century. The city has been selected as an internationally recognized example of post-industrial regeneration through cultural industry and creative partnerships to focus the WAAE’s preparation for the second UNESCO world conference of arts education, to be held in Seoul, South Korea, May 25-28, 2010.
Guiding Aims
The guiding aims of the 2009 Summit are:
1. To prepare the WAAE’s strategic proposals for the 2010 UNESCO World Conference in Arts Education;
2. To develop the relationship between creative pedagogies and the cultivation of knowledge-based societies that nurture sustainable development, global solidarity, cooperation and human rights through strategic partnerships between the WAAE, industry, civil society and government representatives.
Specific Objectives
These guiding aims are focussed through five specific objectives:
1. To produce a Joint Declaration which responds to the diversity of challenges in implementing creative pedagogies of transformation and to the recommendations of the 2006 UNESCO Road Map for Arts Education;
2. To advance the integration of New Media, Literature and Craft in Education into the WAAE’s Research, Networking and Advocacy strategic projects and preparation for the 2010 UNESCO World Conference;
3. To develop an integrated five year plan of action for the WAAE’s Research, Networking and Advocacy strategic projects in partnership with innovators from the arts, sciences, education, industry and policy-making;
4. To develop a resourced WAAE Secretariat through appropriate partnerships.
5. To continue to develop the WAAE’s Summit methodology to ensure the celebration and productive exchange of its participants’ knowledges and creative intelligences.
