Updates for Young People

Young Creative Voices: International Youth Drama Festival

The Young Creative Voices (YCV) is designed to create guidance for young people to consider and express their point of view over a proposed topic and a space to share this valuable exploration.

The goal of Macau “YCV” is to produce three stages of performance and research that will finally be presented in Brazil in 2010 during the IDEA World congress. Macau YCV 2008-2010 will be working on the flowing title: Decolonization, a process of Memory, Transition and Transformation.

Each year, young participants will participate in a two intensive week festival, including sessions in History, Anthropology, Psychology and Theatre by expert academics and art practitioners. In a collaborative mindset, the group will apply the ideas developed in these sessions to create the script, choreography and music for the final performance. All year round, the group organizes meetings and projects making use of internet-based AV, linking local and international participants.

Both artistic and research outcomes will be presented to the public in Macau in June 2010. The group will travel to Brazil and collaborate with other youth groups to create new performance as well as to present their original work at the 2010 IDEA World Congress. The group aims to publish their work through multiple media that will be used as guideline for future projects, educational practices and community actions.

YCV 2009

This year’s festival theme, “TRANSITION” is in direct relationship with the historical situation of Macau, that is the 10th Anniversary of the Handover to the Republic of China. A special Performance Studies’ course is offered at the Macau Inter-University Institute giving the chance to a dozen of students to explore the topic with time for research, discussion and preparation for the festival in the summer
