Twinning

For many years, IDEA has been discussing how to support the needs of its members and colleagues who work in economically 'under-resourced' regions and/or communities, without cultivating dependency, unrealistic and/or unsustainable expectations, or unintentional further inequality!

The idea of ‘twinning’ emerged again and again as one possible practical solution. IDEA members with access to technological and financial resources link to 'under-resourced' members who have other 'riches' to exchange, through the building of sustainable intercultural collaborations based in a commitment to learning to learn and create as equals.

In practice, of course, individuals, groups, organisations and countries have 'twinned' in this way for centuries! IDEA would eventually like to build such intercultural bridges between all its members, according to clear principles of mutual respect and exchange-in-kind, the values that guide the practice of our Solidarity policy.

You can discuss models of ‘twinning’ in the dialogue pages with our Directors of Projects and Solidarity.
