Between July 3-11, the 2010 IDEA World Congress will be hosted by the Brazilian Network of Art-Educators (ABRA), in Belem, north of Brazil. The theme
Viva a Diversidade Viva!
Embracing the Arts of Transformation
has been chosen for its relevance to the global search for new arts-based pedagogies for the 21st century, to the global quest for responses to globalization and dehumanization, to Latin America’s and Brazil’s socio-cultural needs, and as a celebration of interdisciplinarity as a global pedagogical project.
The main aims of the 2010 Congress will be:
To organise the IDEA 2010 World Congress of drama/theatre education through a pedagogy of sustainable and independent development;
To stimulate project collaborations and dialogues between IDEA members and practitioners from arts education communities throughout the world, within and after the 2010 Congress;
To celebrate Latin America’s rich cultures of performance and arts education;
To share Brazil’s rich diversity of theatre education, artistic expression and popular cultures;
To strengthen the World Alliance for Arts Education.
Its specific aims will be:
To research, stage and develop arts-based pedagogies of personal and social transformation;
To research, stage and develop cultural methods of decolonization;
To research, stage and develop eco-pedagogical educational practices;
To organise an international festival of arts for transformation;
To integrate Young IDEA and ‘third-age’ participants throughout the Congress;
To develop pre- and post-Congress workshop residencies.
To professionalize the Congress coordination;
To integrate participants from InSEA and ISME.
