IDEA’s officers are elected by the General Council of IDEA in a General Council Meeting (GCM) held during an IDEA World Congress, itself held once every three years.
Officers are elected to serve for three years, with the possibility of being re-elected only once, to serve for a second term. All officers must be members of IDEA when standing for election and throughout their term of office, but are elected as individuals and not as representatives of any given country or association. The members of the Executive Committee (EC) should preferably be residents of different countries and continents.
All elected officers are accountable to the General Council.
